The journey of a stay at home mom |
My name is Natalie Murphy. I live in Carlsbad, Ca. I live with my wonderful boyfriend, Justin. We have a daughter, Evelyn. She was born on September 1, 2009. I spend the majority of my time taking care of my family and raising my little girl!! In this blog I will share the day to day changes with Evelyn, any tips or things I have learned when it comes to taking care of a baby, and I will also discuss current events. Feel free to follow along. |
Slings — A sling comes in two different forms… pouch sling and ring slings.
The pouch sling is very simple and fits over one shoulder. Just pop the baby in the pocket and you are ready to go. One of the most popular brands of pouch slings in the hotsling. A baby can be worn in five differernt positions. The advantages to this carrier is it’s pretty easy to work with and great for nursing. The disadvantage to this product is some mom’s complain of lack of security. It doesn’t grow with your baby AND all of the weight is distributed to one shoulder. I personally don’t like this carrier at all. It never worked for me and my baby did not like it. See the picture below for an example of a pouch sling.

The ring sling is the other form of a sling carrier. The best thing about this carrier is it’s adjustable for when you change sizes or your baby grows. This carrier is much much easier to work with. Some of the ring slings come with a padded shoulder and some do not. You can use this sling newborn through toddler age. This disadvantages to this carrier is once again the weigh is distributed on to one shoulder, some parents don’t like the extra fabric. The advanteges to this carrier is you can easily and descretly nurse in public with this sling, although some mother’s don’t like the extra fabric you can use it to cover your breast while nursing, also this carrier grows with your baby as I mentioned before. I personally own a maya ring sling. See the photo below for an example

Mei Tai — is an Asian style baby carrier that has ties that go around your waist and over your shoulders. It can be worn on your front, your back, and your hip. It is useful for newborn through toddler. Some will even allow you to face your baby out. They are light weight, very easy to work with, you can just throw this in your baby bag and go. Very breastfeeding friendly. I have heard great things about the Mei Tai. The best things about a Mei Tai, is you can put your baby on your back and then go about your day. The best brand out there is baby hawk. See pictures below to see the different ways to use a Mei Tai.

Wrap — this is a one piece of fabric that wraps around your body to support your baby in place. It is useful for newborn through toddler. I personally don’t think it’s good for a toddler because the toddler will start to sink after while. This baby carrier is supported by MANY mom’s. You can use this carrier in SEVERAL positions. The most popular brand is moby and didymos. See pictures below.

A soft structured carrier. Thes is a carrier that can be worn on the front, back, or hip. This is a buckle carrier or they use D rings. It can be adjusted for many different users. Even though you can use this carrier for a newborn, it is very popular for bigger babies. This is the most expensive carrier. It isn’t breastfeeding friendly. The most popular brand is ergo.
